Also because I meter externally and I never use flash anyway. I chose the SQ-A because of less electronics and plastic in the body. I also had to decide between the SQ-A and the SQ-Ai. i don't have the cameras in front of me, but if i remember correctly, the notification flag about being in multi exposure mode is much easier to see on the Ai. the downside is the plastic shutter release button is a bit more finicky if you're using the speed grip-e. you can get other accessories, such as the motor winder and electronic remote which don't work with the A. the batteries are nicer and easier to find on the Ai. The shutter is kept open mechanically until the slider is put back into its previous position. Bit awkward, requires you to unlock a sliding switch and then press the shutter button. A seperate issue is the T setting on the lens, this is on (afaik) all S and PS lenses (its definately on my S lenses anyhow, and its been on the few PS lenses I've seen). This keeps the shutter open as long as the shutter release button is held down. Yeah the SQ-ai has a Bulb (b) setting on the shutter speed dial. It's not build into the lens, its just after 16 seconds on the shutter winder thing. Won't Ai's TTL work only with specific flashes? Also, Don't they both have BULB?īulb is a function built in the lenses ("T" instead of "A"), not in the camera.įor sure a TTL-flash is necessary, but the SQ-A cannot support the signals for it. If you use a prism the Ai-film backs are better with their ISO-dial on the backside. Imho these are the only two differences between A and Ai. SQ-Ai has 16 seconds instead of 8 seconds and can use TTL-flash. MrDAT (a group admin) edited this topic ages ago. I just got two rolls back and a lot of it was guessed and it came out good. I don't always use the metered prism and just guestimate or hand meter with my L-558R. That said, I got a kit that already had an AEmetered prism because the kit was just as expensive as finding a metered prism by itself. (I did see that the SQ-B doesn't have the couplings to use a metered prism). From what I've read, all SQ parts are compatible with each. I bought the SQ-A because it was cheaper and actually available near me. i don't have one so i meter with a small rangefinder camera as a spot meter and it works perfectly. How do you meter with the SQ-A?Ī metered prism as a meter. if you need the auto-exposure system, i think only the SQ-Ai have it, of all the SQ bodies. also, i've heard there is more plastic part on the SQ-Ai. The reason i choosed the SQ-A is because it was cheaper. I dont tried the SQ-Ai, but the SQ-A is very well built, and my 80mm PS lens is very sharp. What adavantages does the Ai model have over the SQ-a? I am interested in buying a SQ-A but am unsure about whether to go for the SQ-Ai.
